A differentiated takeaway homework gird to be used with all years and is easily adaptable to different subjects.<br /> <br /> Consider producing as a display in your classroom with menus for students to takeaway. All you need to simply do is set the topic and a deadline and allow the students to make their choice!

I am sure you have heard of this approach to homework so I thought I would post the one I have created in the hope that it might be of use to you. It is a great way of getting students to choose homework tasks for themselves, but could also be used in a cover lesson. You may want to use this and then create your own or adapt it for different classes.

Useful homework and revision tool for GCSE

<p>A 2 sided booklet designed to mimic a Take Away menu. Booklet contains various homework tasks that are to be completed by year 7 and year 8 students across the year. Students select tasks or can be directed towards tasks. Please note this resource is produced in MS Publisher</p>

This is my 'takeaway homework' menu I give to my students.<br /> The pdf contains a ready to print version of the menu to give straight to students. The idea is that they choose any task to complete for their homework from the menu. I set these homeworks over a half term and students have to earn a set amount of 'chillies' in these weeks.<br /> On the ppt file I have an editable version of the menu for you to change my name etc to suit your students - this can then be printed as above. A simple but effective resource to set regular, differentiated English homework based around reading. <br /> <br /> The 'takeaway menu' style indicates the difficulty of the tasks by the spiciness of the dish. I have found this a useful resource to allow me to differentiate (by indicating which spiciness of dish I want each pupil to attempt) whilst still allowing pupil choice and ownership (by allowing them to choose which specific task to attempt). <br /> <br /> Can be used for a number of consecutive weeks to encourage pupils to explore the texts they are reading in more depth. I have successfully used it with both whole class texts and A.R. texts (individual books). <br /> <br /> Also includes a simple template for teacher feedback to make marking quick and effective.

A homework project on the Titanic with a feedback sheet as well. It is designed to look like one of the White Star Line dining menus and has a range of differentiated tasks for students to select from. I set it without teaching my students about the Titanic as a project to run alongside the 20th-century world unit.
