Library Challenge Cards

(31)
These ‘Library Challenge’ cards were made for my class library, but they could be used in a school library as well. The idea was just to get the children excited about reading and properly engaged with the books, and they’ve really enjoyed working through the activities – an added bonus being that I use this work to decorate the walls of our library. There’s a selection of 10 Library Challenge Cards, plus a ‘Library Challenge of the Week’ which just allows for changing things up a little without having to print and laminate more cards.

Reading activities- Library lesson/end of term

As an English teacher we tend to have either library lessons or personal reading lessons each week. They can range from 1/2 lesson to a full lesson and can be a nightmare for the classes who dislike reading. This PPT was designed for them in mind and includes 8 weekly activities which change from 10-25 minutes. All activities are fun discussion based activities which focus mainly on their own books. Included: Who has the best opening line? Find the technique (fastest finger) Twitter summary … and more. It really helped to keep my students on side during a 50 minute lesson as they knew if they stayed focused on reading we would have a fun activity to complete after the first 25-30 minutes.

Library Lesson Activity Pages

I created these library lesson activity pages to be used in the reading lessons. Each page has space where pupils can make notes on their book, an activity, and the opportunity to select a 'quote of the week' or new words. Students can fill in the pages whilst they are reading, and at the end of the lesson. I have incorporated a diverse range of activity to help engage students in the consideration of ideas and issues explored within the texts they are reading, and is designed to promote independence.

Library Activity Pack: Transport on the Move Resource Book

The Transport on the Move Resource book is an excellent resource for any library. The Transport on the Move Resource gives you a ticket to ride on vehicles as common as a car and as bizarre as a blimp! From horses to highways and ships to shuttles, transport has continually developed to reach destinations with increasing speed, comfort and technology. Hitch a ride on a chariot in Ancient Rome, take a trip on the Titanic (make sure you reserve a space on a lifeboat), cruise in classic cars and submerge into the world of submarines. This is your chance to hover in a “chopper”, handle huskies in harsh snow and pedal a penny farthing. Along the way, stop off and meet the incredible inventors of many marvellous machines and super safety devices. This book gives you the keys to discover how different forms of transport were developed, as well as giving you a trunk-full of trivia and amazing facts. Travel across land, sea and air, with a side-trip into space and skate back home, a little wiser on everything with wings, wheels, sails and keels. The Super Space Resource Book is an excellent resource for any library. Humans have been mystified about outer space since prehistoric times, when ancient people noticed asteroids crashing to Earth and stars lighting up the night skies. With the development of new technologies over hundreds of years, scientists have been able to unlock some of the mysteries of the universe, such as determining the size and origins of the universe and how the solar system works. The Hubble Space Telescope has provided thousands of clues as to the mysteries of the cosmos. Featured also in Super Space Resource is information about the ongoing search for life on other planets or other solar systems. While discovery is the key, the search for extra intelligence is still a top focus of many exploration missions. The truth is out there.
