A Powerpoint all about spring. The Powerpoint shares seasonal facts about spring and includes questions for children to answer. There are also five worksheets about spring for children to complete. The worksheets cover filling in the missing words in sentences about spring, designing an umbrella, answering questions about the season spring, spring months and drawing a spring scene. Aimed at Key Stage 1 children however the Powerpoint and some of the worksheets could be used with Reception children. Updated for Spring 2018! Download our five-lesson literacy unit of poetry planning for Years 1 and 2, based on performing Spring poetry and built around the KS1 new curriculum literacy objectives. In this unit, pupils will read a classic Spring poem about a fast white bunny and they will consider how the sounds and language patterns come alive when the poem is read aloud, particularly reflecting on the use of verbs and similes. Children will work towards creating their version of the Easter poem and turning it into an effective performance. The aims of the unit for pupils are: • To listen to a classic Spring poem being read aloud • To identify verbs and similes • To prepare a poetry performance including actions • To perform a poem to an audience The PDF file contains 5 full literacy lesson plans, copies of the poem and all accompanying pupil resources. This resource contains 3 comprehension activities suitable for using with year 1. The theme in this pack is spring. The three topics are: What can I do in the spring? What happens in the spring? Spring animals Each comprehension contains a short piece of text (about 5 sentences) with words that can be sounded out. There are three trickier words which have pictures to help children work out what they say. The text is followed by 5 questions, containing ‘what’ ‘who’ and ‘when’ questions and some multiple choice questions. There is also a powerpoint included in the pack containing a slide for each text so that you can go through the comprehensions before the children complete them. Each slide also contains 3 words that are trickier to sound out, with sound buttons underneath them. Answers are also included. PDF file format. A flexible teaching resource for primary aged children. A quartet for voices and percussion. This resource is intended to be used as flexibly as possible by teachers and their students. It may be used as a stand-alone piece for performance, as a warm-up to a music or singing lesson or as a unit of work. The set includes; Teacher Notes; Full score in 4 parts for voices and percussion instruments; Creative planning grid for Key Stage 2 with ideas for lessons and activities. Instrumentation The notation is for voices and any percussion instruments. Additionally, any instruments which use the treble clef including tuned percussion may be used. The voice parts may be doubled by instruments in any octave. Aims These quartet meet the aims and develop the skills set out in the National Curriculum for Music for Key Stages 2 and 3. (2013) and ABRSM music medals. This unit of work also supports ‘A national Plan for Music Education’ (2022, pp.15 -34).

Card game on the theme of spring This card game is also known as Spot it. Instructions The file is prepared for two-sided printing. It is recommended to cut the cards and then to laminate them. It is a great way to help cards last. Gamerules The game uses a deck of 31 cards, each printed with six different symbols. Any two cards always share one, and only one, matching symbol. An explanation of haiku and an example given. The students then write their own haiku. Students who are confident readers will be able to complete the whole activity independently. In my experience, once students have grasped the concept, they love to write these three line, 17 syllable poems.
