A Level Politics: General Election Case Studies

**** A Grade Level Resource Perfect for revision or learning for the first time. In depth fact files on the 1979, 1997 and 2017 General Elections. Students are required to know the 1997 General Election, so this is a very useful resource. They cover background context (Why was an election called?), voter turnout and split, how the campaign was ran (leadership, policy and image), voting behaviour (focusing on age, gender and class) and the media. They are so useful as they give you insight into the four topics (Political Parties, Voting Behaviour and the Media, Electoral systems and Democracy and Participation). They are extremely detailed so work brilliantly giving you specific knowledge as well as being covering all topics.

A lesson looking at this year's General Election. It starts with an interactive 'who is who' and moves onto the five key parties: Conservatives, Labour, Lib Dem, UKIP and Green. I have selected a few of the key policies and attempted to make them more child friendly. I have focused on education, health, housing and a summary of key policies. Children will then gather information on one party and take it in turns to teach each other so that every child has information on each party- excellent speaking and listening opportunities. Children to then answer three questions and we will hold an in class general election to see who the winner would have been.

A chance for your students to make their own parties, too, and vote for them. WARNING: the youtube clip from the first slide has some mild obscenity in it (it's a humorous video by a made up party called the CBA party: intended to get students 'onside' - but not suitable for primary).
