7Be - Growing UpQuick View

7Be - Growing Up

This is an outstanding resource created from the new 9-1 Edexcel 5 year SoW. This resource focuses on the topic of 7Be - Growing Up. As this is the last of the sequence of lessons for the topic of 7B - Reproduction, i have begun this resource with a quiz from the exploring science assessment pack. If you do not own this pack then this starter activity is entirely optional. The second part of the lesson involves a sequence of 'think, pair, share' sections whereby pupils will be asked to look at an image, think about the question asked, and feedback to the teacher and class. The lessons level descriptors/outcomes will be displayed consistently and constantly throughout following BLOOMS taxonomy to stretch, challenge and monitor pupils progress. The first activity will see pupils preparing a mind-map over the vague topic of 'puberty' Ideas raised from this then can be discussed with the class. Pupils are then given a template of the human life cycle as well as a series of images and asked to stick them in a logical order to represent the human life cycle. They are then handed a series of names to place underneath these images so that each stage has a name. They are then given a series of ages to place underneath the images and stages. Pupils complete their human life cycle by adding arrows to their diagrams. This should be a fairly easy task for the pupils therefore they will conclude this part of the lesson by circulating the class room where information on each of these stages will be scattered and they are to select information to describe each stage . Pupils are then to feedback the information they have found to the class. The subsequent lesson in this resource is another outstanding resource on the menstrual cycle. As a starter activity pupils are to recall the structures of the human female reproductive organ as well as complete a series of incomplete sentences regarding fertilization. Pupils are then handed a timeline sheet whereby they are to color coordinate the menstrual cycle to the separate sections highlighted by the animated power point slides. at the end of this section of the lesson pupils are to have a fully color coordinated timeline and key as well as extra information on menstrual cycle. The final stage of this lesson moves onto puberty. Pupils will be given a template of a human, half of which is dedicated to female, the other to male. We will discuss the things experienced through puberty for both males and females, pupils are to add bullet points to their diagram as well as fun diagrams/annotates and sketches to their template.
