Times Tables Precision Teaching Booklet

Need a quick and easy intervention to support student to learn tables - This booklet is designed to support a student to develop recall of tables through a focused daily minute of recall. The booklet has a pre and post assessment as well as record space to track daily progress. Some students need to use a structured approach to get number facts into their long-term memory – they do not seem to keep them there just by regular use in maths lessons. This booklet can be used to support this process. On each page is a grid with items to prompt the student to say a tables fact. Each day they should count how many oral responses they can give in a minute – and record that on the sheet. The aim is to be able to recall a few more each day. The precision teaching approach works best if the student can do an activity using the content of the page they are currently working on for a few minutes ( 5 to 10) before they do the one-minute timed activity. There are lots of interactive maths sites online e.g. Topmarks: teaching resources, interactive resources, worksheets, homework, exam and revision help – and this is a great way to give student this opportunity in a way that they can do independently. At the end of the booklet is a tables square for reference and some ideas for extension activities.

Perfect pair work - just add a pair of dice! Also makes a great home learning task. Update April 2020: I’ve added in a PowerPoint version and a Google Slides version for use in virtual classrooms or even for suggesting your pupils use to play with each other while they’re at home to keep up their skills.

Times Tables Multiplication Mazes Activities

(0)
Fun mixed times table facts practice with 5 fun maths maze puzzle activities, ideal for Key Stage 2 (KS2). You could use them as early finisher challenges, warms ups, or homework tasks. No prep printable puzzles in PDF or make them digital with Easel. Includes answer keys. CONTENTS: 3 more challenging mazes for mixed times tables practice (up to 12 times table) 2 less challenging mazes for mixed times tables practice (up to 10 times table) Full answer keys Please see the previews to check these will suit your students. No prep required: Just print! Students use the answers to make a path through the maze. The correct pathway does not pass through all boxes. Use again: You might want to laminate to use again and again, with students using a dry-wipe marker instead of a pencil or highlighter etc. They can easily erase if they go wrong. Differentiation: There are mazes at two levels of challenge to suit different ages and abilities. Mazes work well for individuals, pairs or small groups. You might want to enlarge mazes for use by larger groups. The less challenging mazes go up to the 10 times table, while the more challenging mazes go up to the 12 times table. The less challenging mazes also have fewer paths. Answer keys: You could print an answer key so you can quickly find students who have gone wrong and nudge them back on course! The mazes also promote self-correction as students retrace their steps to see where they have strayed from the correct path! You could display the answer key on the whiteboard at the end for self-checking. All the times tables from 2-12, displayed as visual representations of items that come in 3s, 4s, 5s, etc. To be used when learning times tables, so children can be provided with 'proof' of the times tables as they are learning them. Good for visual learners - seeing the times tables represented this way can help with retention of the times tables facts. These could be laminated and used as 'mats' when learning times tables, or printed out and displayed as part of a mathematics display. There is one 2-page document provided for each times table.

Times Tables Snakes and Ladders

(3)
Times tables can be a tricky maths skill to teach because of the understanding required of the relationships between the numbers and the amount of maths number facts students are required to recall in learning their 2x to x12 times tables. Rote learning can mean children recall their times table facts but have no idea what the relationships mean between the numbers. We have found that the best strategy is continued practise through game-play. Our students really enjoy this snakes and ladders multiplication game and ask to play it again. We have included division facts also on the game boards to help students understand the relationship between multiplication and division. We have included instructions on how to play in the pack and colour and black and white versions of the game boards, so you can print the version you prefer. We hope you and your students enjoy this pack and please let us know if you have any queries on eeducationhelp@gmail.com.

Ideas for use: As a matching activity by individuals/pairs/small groups As flashcards during the oral/mental part of the Numeracy Hour As an interactive display, requiring the children to place the correct answers against the facts displayed To show that changing the order of the digits in facts does not affect the answer, e.g. 4 x 5 = 20 is the same as 5 x 4 = 20 As an interactive group/class matching activity on the board (use blu-tac) …and lots more!!!
