This task asks students to write alternative endings for the novel 'To Kill a Mocking Bird'. The learning objective students should aim to meet is: To compose alternative endings for the novel ‘To Kill a Mocking Bird’.
This is a complete mock exam for paper 1 of the WJEC GCSE English exam. The extract is taken from To Kill a Mockingbird. The resource uses the formal layout of the exam with extract as separate. There are two videos which you may wish to use as warm up with your students. One is the blu-ray trailer for the movie and second is a break down of the story by Thug Notes. Please note that Thug Notes does contain some mild use of language and adult themes, as I work with 16+ and adults, this is fine for me to use but you may wish to use the trailer or an alternative. Be advised that TES preview does distort the view of the resource and this is not a true reflection. Hope it helps.

The following slides include a variety of Paper 1, Question 1 questions on 19th, 20th and 21st texts. I have used the following texts: Great Expectations, 1984, To Kill a Mocking Bird, Of Mice and Men, Wuthering Heights, Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Animal Farm, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and Brave New World.
These can be used as starters, plenaries, tests or set as homework by the class teacher. They are differentiated with some texts and questions that are easier than others; therefore they could be printed and given to students as a differentiated activity.
The slides include the answers in purple which are set to come in on animation when viewed as a slideshow. To print, I would recommend saving two versions and then deleting the answers from one of the PowerPoints and printing them as slides.

This comic book has been designed to provide a visual setting for the narrative of 'The Tell Tale Heart' that will help the student come to a better understanding of the story line by supplementing the literary devices and symbols that Poe used when writing his famous short story. The language used has been slightly adapted and edited to suit the comic format. It can be printed for easy distribution, displayed as a slide show on a computer or used as an eBook on an iPad or other tablet.
