Transition Workbook Year 6 to Year 7 / Primary to Secondary / New School This download is a Year 6 transition workbook for primary to secondary. It prepares pupils for the transition to a new school. It would also work for any pupil about to move schools to prepare them for the transition. There are pages on timings of the day at their new school, rewards and consequences, how they will get there and the all important school dinner! Most of the information required could be found on the website for their new school. Included: workbook (23 pages including front cover) editable (PowerPoint) version and also a PDF version for immediate printing.

An engaging lesson which looks at the properties of the Transition metals of the Periodic Table and ultimately compares these properties against other metals, such as the Alkali metals. Through the use of a range of motivating tasks and quiz competitions, students will learn that the transition metals form coloured compounds, have a number of ion charges, act as catalysts and are harder, stronger but less reactive than group 1. This lesson has been written for GCSE students (14 - 16 year olds) but is suitable for younger students who are looking at the patterns and trends in the Periodic Table

I wrote this for new students joining Year 7 to do over the summer (if they wanted to) given that they hadn’t attended school due to lockdown for a few months. Each of the ten topics is taken from the Year 6 national curriculum and each sheet is self-marking whether is forms an image, questions and answers match or a punchline to a joke, so students can work independently and ensure that they are not rusty in September. Topics include angles, coordinates, fractions, decimals, percentages, measures, ratio, rounding, numerical calculations, statistical graphs. If they get stuck, each sheet has a QR code (bar a metric conversions one) that when scanned using a smartphone takes you to a short tutorial video. There are two activities for each topic (20 activities in total) and answers are provided; if printed out as a booklet the answers are on the reverse of the question sheet.

I have created this resource to support the transition from Year 6 to Year 7. It is an activity booklet designed for children to complete independently perhaps as part of their home learning and give them an opportunity to share any worries with adults. The booklet includes 15 pages of advice and activities and focuses on the key skills they will need during their transition. It also gives children the opportunity to manage their feelings. Activities include Organisation, skills and attributes, making friends, planning your journey to school and timetable reading. I’ve included both the editable Word document and a PDF for printing.

A game I made for my small class of learners with autism. Suitable for any small group introduction - e.g. intervention group, speech and language, attention and listening. Learners throw a dice and move around the board. When they land on a question, they answer the question. I like to ask another member of the group a question relating to the answer, to encourage learners to pay attention to each other's answers - my children tend to have very little interest in each other! Supports social skills, attention and listening, turn taking. Used for specialist autism group but appropriate for any mainstream KS1 / KS2 group or older SEN group.
