White Rose Maths Hub - Year 7 Scheme of Learning

Please note that this file was updated on 27.06.2016 One of the most frequent requests we get as a Maths Hub is for a suggested long term curriculum plan for mathematics at KS3. We have listened to what teachers need and the following mastery overviews have been developed by secondary practitioners in conjunction with the White Rose Maths Hub to provide a curriculum plan that will support ‘Teaching for Mastery’. There is a termly plan for each year group from Year 7 to Year 9; each term is split into twelve weeks. You will see from the overviews that a significant amount of time in Year 7 Autumn and Spring term is devoted to developing key number concepts. This is to build their competency as number sense will affect their success in other areas of mathematics. Students who are successful with number are much more confident mathematicians. Alongside these curriculum plans, our aim is also to provide an assessment for each term. There are two versions of the assessment: Paper A: Support for lower attaining students Paper B: For the core with appropriate challenge You can use these assessments to determine gaps in your students’ knowledge and use them to plan support and intervention strategies. Our assessments are designed to test students understanding. They support teaching approaches such as bar modelling, place value grids, other part whole diagrams and using concrete materials to introduce topics. We hope you find them useful. If you have any comments about this document or have any ideas please do get in touch. The White Rose Maths Hub Team

Year 2 maths planning Autumn 1 following White Rose Hub schemeQuick View

Year 2 maths planning Autumn 1 following White Rose Hub scheme

I am getting ready for September and have uploaded my planning for number and place value and addition and subtraction for the first 6 weeks following the white rose hub suggested order of units. I will also be finding time to pre-assess these 2 areas and also assess at the end of the unit to show gaps and adapt my planning to suit the cohort. Update: I have also added my new planning after teaching this unit for just over 2 weeks and adapting it along the way. I found that concentrating on just number and place value worked really well. I am now recapping on these skills at the start of each lesson to remind the children of what they have learnt.

Year 6 Maths Scheme of Work (based on White Rose Maths)Quick View

Year 6 Maths Scheme of Work (based on White Rose Maths)

A scheme of learning with planning and worksheets included for Year 6 Maths. Included are 60 lessons that cover: Place Value Rounding Negative Numbers Roman Numerals Indices Inverse operations Written addition and subtraction Mental addition and subtraction Written multiplication and division Order of operations Finding fractions of amounts Comparing fractions Converting between improper and mixed number fractions Add and subtract fractions Multiply fractions together Multiply fractions by whole numbers Divide fractions by whole numbers Percentages Fraction, decimal and percentages Ratio Algebra including missing information, expressing problems, satisfying equations, satisfying two variables and sequences Worksheets are differentiated three ways with a mastery aim running throughout. Having used a similar format in my own lessons, these sheets often provide enough challenge for two days lessons, with children taking on the easier work then moving on to harder challenges within the other sheets. These have all been made with mastery in mind and so follow this pattern. Worksheet One - Works on practise and fluency (LA) Worksheet Two - Practise, fluency and reasoning (MA) Worksheet Three - Practise, fluency, reasoning and problem solving (HA) Worksheet Four - Same as worksheet three as a spare for anybody who finishes problem solving Answers are included for each sheet.

White Rose Maths Hub - Maths : Everyone Can Posters - Positive Mind-set for mathematics

Here are 10 posters that promote the message that Everyone Can. These posters are designed to be put in classrooms or around school to encourage a positive attitude towards mathematics. The posters are to be used in conjunction with our 'Everyone Can' video. https://vimeo.com/173324233 The posters are designed to sit alongside our 'Everyone Can; campaign. We are keen for schools in our region and wider to do their own week of inspirational maths (see Jo Boaler's www.youcubed.org). The messages on the posters say - There's no such thing as a maths person - Mistakes grow your brain - Mistakes are valuable - Questions are really important - Why does that make sense? - Speed is not important - Maths is about making connections - Practice, hard work and belief - Everyone Can Our own website www.whiterosemathshub.co.uk has other materials that you can use. White Rose Maths hub place value resources and Smart Boards

This is the second week of planning based on White Rose Maths. I struggled to find resources that linked with the document as much as I wanted them to so I decided to make my own. Let me know if you notice any mistakes. The objectives covered are: 100s 10s and 1s (place value) Estimating numbers on a numberline Finding 10 and 100 more or less Comparing numbers. (For this activity I cut up the numbers represented in different ways then the children had to pick 2 and compare) The images of the children have been taken directly from the Year 3 part of the document, as I wanted them to match as much as possible.

White Rose Maths Assessment Guidance Key Stage 2 Excel OverviewQuick View

White Rose Maths Assessment Guidance Key Stage 2 Excel Overview

As part of my role as Maths coordinator and Senior Leadership Team I have created a White Rose Maths Assessment Grid. This is NOT perfect by any means and has been made for our school to help give us a glance at the results in Key Stage 2. Each result is inputted then a colour coded score is given. The scores are in relation to the National Curriculum pass mark and I have used my own judgement. This may help your school to gauge an overview of Key Stage 2 results. If you like this please leave a comment and I will attempt to make a Key Stage 1 sheet if needed. You can fit 34 children on here as that allows for a single A4 sheet. More lines for results can be added and the code for each grid copied.

Year 2 Maths Block 2 Addition & Subtraction White Rose Planning and resources - first 2 weeksQuick View

Year 2 Maths Block 2 Addition & Subtraction White Rose Planning and resources - first 2 weeks

First 2 (out of 5) weeks planning for Year 2 Maths - Autumn Term - Block 2 (Addition and Subtraction), following the new White Rose small steps planning guidance. Using models and images from these plans. There are 10 lessons (including 2 assess/review sessions), which I have found really helpful to give time to go assess children's learning or provide intervention for children with gaps before moving on. I have also included my flipchart - created using Active Inspire - though I believe this can be converted to a ppt or smartboard if preferred. The presentation has 40 slides to help teach these lessons. I have also included the resources/worksheets mentioned in the planning. There are 19 sheets in total. Some lessons are differentiated 2 or 3 ways and many lessons have a greater depth activity for children to attempt at the end. The worksheets are made using our school cursive script - though these are included as word documents should you wish to change it - or as a pdf if you want to use them as they are. I am in the process of completing the final 3 weeks of the block and will add this to the files when finished.
