32 lessons - 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' by Onjali Rauf - Year 4/5/6 - English planning

(20)
A whole term’s English planning linked to the book ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’ (Winner of the Blue Peter Best Story Award 2019) by Onjali Rauf. 32 lessons in total, all with SMART Notebook screens, task sheets and header sheets. There are a total of 193 SMART Notebook screens (in one file) and each lesson is clearly marked along with which lesson each chapter should be read to aid and link to the learning. (Update 19/5/2020 - In response to many requests, I have converted the SMART Notebook screens to Powerpoint, so there is also a 193 page Powerpoint presentation included for the teaching sequence.) This teaching sequence and planning will require the children to complete the following tasks over the 32 lessons: writing a recount writing a persuasive letter answering SATs style comprehension questions writing a narrative descriptive writing drama session writing an information text writing a newspaper report I have also included some examples of work for some lessons. This topic will also educate and inform the children of a very current real problem that others in the world face - the plight of the refugee. Using this book will expand their understanding of the world and help them to empathise and appreciate what some of the other children in school may have gone through. Even if you don’t need this scheme of work, I would highly recommend the book to share with the class.

Headteacher Application - Personal Statement and cover letter. (Successful 2020))

(0)
A comprehensive covering letter and personal statement which I wrote during my recent job search. Although it obviously needed to be adapted to suit the needs of each school that I was applying for, I found that having a ‘base’ letter was extremely useful. I was shortlisted for each job I sent this application to (and gained a headship) There was nothing on line at the time that I could use to guide/scaffold me, so I hope that someone finds this useful!

CURRENT WEEK The News Quiz 22nd - 29th November 2021 Form Tutor Time Current Affairs

(0)
2021 draws to a close with a variety of stories from around the world! What a week once again - United highs and lows, PM speech goes awry and cartoon ramblings, scientist’s papers go on sale, Grammy noms, NASA going to the moon, people locked out of their own cars, new animal single, Red at one, new build news, Survivor Series champions, celeb getaway and Spotify shuffle under attack!!! What does 2021-2022 school year hold in store for us all? There’s only one way to find out - in the NEEEEEEWWWWSSS QUUUUUUUIIIIIZZZ! :) New quiz uploaded each week of the term, ALL YEAR LONG! More than ten years and still going strong :) Many thanks to everyone who downloads this, it is very much appreciated and I’m glad it is useful for your form groups! 13 topical questions of the past week’s news, across the UK and the world. Designed to be used as a 10-20 minute activity in formtime - you could make it a little longer by talking about and discussing some of the questions. ANY MIS-SPELLINGS/MISSING CAPITALS ETC. IN THE PREVIEW ARE INTENTIONAL AND LINK TO THE LITERACY QUESTIONS IN THE REST OF THE QUIZ! Powerpoint so can be used on a standard whiteboard. Includes 2 literacy and 1 numeracy questions based on the other questions. Works well as a form group activity in registration time - I give sweets to the winning team (we’re not supposed to give sweets out, so it’s a nice ‘naughty’ reward and makes (some of) them watch and check their apps about the news in the week. :)

5 Big Pastoral Questions and their Answers: Interview Prep - Head of Year Development - Set 1

(1)
This PDF includes 5 key questions asked on pastoral interview and their answers in detail. These are intended to support existing or new heads of year as well as being potential questions you may get asked on interview. In this set I answer: how do you deal with angry parent? how do you support a student struggling to fit in? how do you lead a team? how do you deal with poor student behaviour? do you monitor student progress? These answers are suggestions – they are not necessarily definitive. If preparing for interview, I always recommend you tailor your questions to the school you’re applying to and ensure you are giving specific examples of what you’re able to offer. If in post, always remember the policies of your school. This took me ages so I hope it can be useful to someone else. It's a basic Italian grammar revision guide for GCSE, with all the vocabulary from the aqa specs put together by synonyms. Each revision page has a few blanks for pupils to fill in and practise what they've revised. Simply print as it is, photocopy double-sided and fold in the middle, I've organised the pages chronologically already.

Fat Face - building resilience to the methods and processes of radicalisation

(5)
This resource seeks to support schools in building pupils’ understanding of these issues and building resilience to the methods and processes of radicalisation and includes discussions on Prevent. Schools have a duty to ensure pupils are aware of the risks associated with extremism. This resource is a stand-alone unit, allowing schools to decide which year group to use it with, but it should be taught within a planned PSHE programme. We would recommend that it is used with Year 6 and above, as this should provide the broader protective learning pupils need, supported by the wider curriculum and set within a positive school environment. The aim of this lesson pack is to demonstrate how people, including children, can be exposed to extremist influences or prejudiced views at an early age from a variety of sources. This has kindly been produced in partnership with: Avon and Somerset Constabulary Prevent Team; Trading with Schools, Teaching and Learning Consultant (Equalities and Prevent) and; Bristol City Council. A password is required for the film (toler8), this is also written within the lesson plan.
