Some students LOVE the World Cup. Some couldn’t care less! Here’s a quiz to suit both. The rounds alternate (50/50) between World Cup Russia 2018 and questions about current affairs, maths, pop music, grammar, history, food, technology, the Kardashians, cricket… basically anything else! The quiz is interactive, multiple choice and has hidden humorous youtube clips throughout the questions for extra clues or a commiseration giggle when the class get an answer wrong. There are two ways of playing - either as a whole class, or, you can put the quiz on slide view, skip the answers and read them out at the end (if your class would rather compete in groups). A score sheet and all answers are included. The quiz is completely editable too. Series of activities to introduce the World Cup in Russia 2018. Starting with identifying the continents of origin of the 32 competing nations which leads into a mapping exercise showing where in the world these countries are found. Second activity is again atlas work and a poster presentation, as students locate the venues of the matches on a map of Russia, then match up the images of the grounds to the city. Third activity looks at the size of Russia and maps the distance between venues, students are asked to calculate which team has the greatest distance to travel during the group stage of the competition. Extra activities include word search and a cross word which looks at the geographical features of Russia as well as details about the World Cup. Hyperlinks to video clips are also included.

The theme for this investigation resource is the 2018 Football World Cup. It is intended to be used in weeks 8 - 11 of the Summer Term. The resource contains worksheets and activities on Year 6 National Curriculum Maths Objectives. Worksheets and Activities Set 1 Calculation of the mean age of England’s football squad. Selection of a team from each of the 8 football groups in the World Cup to track performance and complete performance tables. Calculation of percentages on selected statistics of England squad Selection of 5 players from England’s football squad to follow and assess performance in the World Cup. Compilation of data and statistics on players’ performance in tabular form. Pictorial representation of the data in the form of bar charts and pie graphs.
