'How to Become a Successful TES Author - Step by Step Guide' - A 'Must Have' For Authors!Quick View

'How to Become a Successful TES Author - Step by Step Guide' - A 'Must Have' For Authors!

I began to produce educational resources for TES in August 2015. When I look back at my early resources I cringe! I made so many mistakes…. Since then I have come a long way and learned so much. I currently have 37 TES recommended resources. One of my resources made over 900 sales in the space of a few weeks and earned nearly £2000 in royalties. In this 26-page, step by step guide I share my mistakes and my successes to help you avoid making the same mistakes and to become a successful author sooner than you would have done without this guide. I do not claim to have all the answers and ‘my way’ might not be other people’s way. However, whether you are a potential author, an author starting out or already an author; I am sure that this guide can help you in some way and will prove a worthwhile investment. The guide includes advice on Making resources Maximising the selling potential of resources Creating a cover page Sourcing images Copyrighting your resources Pricing your resources Product Descriptions HTML codes for creating bold, italics, underlining, bullet pints and numbered lists for product description page Adding links to other products and your shop in descriptions Creating your TES shop Branding Increasing the visibility of your resources Promoting your products through social media platforms Promoting yourself Dealing with reviews General advice The resource also contains hyperlinks to some very useful sites and tools which will help you in making and promoting your products. Another valuable author resource. Author Calendar and Planner Nine out of ten of my top selling resources are seasonal resources and special days resources. My everyday resources are my 'bread and butter' resources; my seasonal resources are truly the icing on my cake! Keep ahead and plan your seasonal resources with this calendar and planner which contains all the major special days and awareness days for the whole year. No more missing special days or not allocating yourself enough time to produce resources. Days that change in date each year are highlighted red; days that are fixed are black. It is available in PDF and word format to allow editing. For more inspiring educational resources visit Inspire and Educate

Peer Assessment, final product or modelQuick View

Peer Assessment, final product or model

Description: This is a simple peer assessment task that allows KS3 pupils to assess a peer's final product or model that they have produced. It prompts them to identify something that has been done well, whilst also highlighting an area to target for improvement. Objective: Encourage pupils to create a balanced, critical view when evaluating a product. By promoting the evaluation of someone else's work, they are able to look at the product objectively without bias, particularly if the product they evalaute is not that of the person they sit next to. Assessment: It can be used to inform AoL and formally documented by a teacher, or used more readily in session by a teacher who can then recall common targets for improvement, discussing with Q&A how these could be achieved. Prior Knowledge: The criteria of the project, which will have been set by the classroom teacher or discussed in the form of a specification possibly. Expectations: Pupils should begin to create a balanced, structured argument about products in general. They should use their K&U along with their experiences to identify and set appropriate targets for themselves and their peers. Hints: These can be folded, hole punched and, with some string, tied to the product. To save on labour, the kids can do this, and it creates a simple kinaesthetic element to the evaluation. Another way to do this is to print them, cut them out and glue them together. Laminate them and the pupils can then complete them with water-based markers, which can easily be wiped off. This is more time-consuming, but saves time in the lesson and saves materials in the long run

Teacher Excel Markbook

This excel spreadsheet can be used to record student's grades. Using a 1-10 system you can record their marks and it will automatically average the grade. If you enter J, K or L in capitals (which is converted into a smiley face) in the effort column it will also average their effort grade. This provides formative feedback and allows progress to be monitored. This is a concept and could easily be adapted for specific use, i.e. Assessment without levels, BTEC etc.

Starters whiteboard templatesQuick View

Starters whiteboard templates

This resource is useful to print and laminate to make it reusable, they can be held together with keyring rings or treasury tags and kept as your 'starters pack'. Ideally each student will have a pack and they turn to the template that the teacher has allocated (displayed on the board) ready for the lesson. It's really useful to help you keep up with the routine of starters, sometimes the barrier to this can simply be not having the resource at the ready! Hope you find it useful :)
