New Edexcel MFL Speaking Mark Schemes for A Level. Spanish, German, Italian, French.
Easy to use mark schemes to save time going through all categories to award marks. Bands are easier to see.
In A4.
For iDoceo users I include the rubric files that can be imported onto your iDoceo planner. Skills can also be assigned to rows to be able to produce more accurate assessments.
Every time you do a test or assessment, assign a particular skill or standard to that columns. iDoceo automatically takes them all into account to come up with a percentage or colour scale to let you see how your pupils are doing as an overall. Tapping on that percentage will show the columns it took into account.
Spot issues, assess, comment, give feedback and report in the blink of an eye with this tool.
To import, tap on the uncompressed file (it is easier if you email it to yourself), open on iPad and tap on OPEN IN > iDoceo.
Your rubrics are ready to use!
A brief guide for students on how to learn a language and develop study skills. Gives general tips and specific study ideas and should help students take control of their own learning.
This is my first go at a Sentence Builder for A’level (year 12, at the moment).
This is intended to help students to develop their ideas and confidence when it comes to giving their opinions on various hispanic-related types of entertainment.
I have created 1 with the English translations - to help students to learn the vocab and structures and 1 without the English as a prompt for ideas.
Going to get them to listen to couple of Spanish songs 1st and then give their opinions. Will show adverts/tweets/trailers etc and keep asking for opinions.

You will need / recorders / talking box for this lesson ideally
At the beginning give to your team leaders (G&T) one question from the last slide to prepare during the lesson (the question is given in an envelop with the instructions on it cf picture). I have a language assistant that will take them out one by one during the lesson, to record their question on the talking boxes.
First step: identifying tenses / key words to figure out meaning
second step: AFL ABC cards
third: translation
4 = understanding question from recording and designing a potential answer (group work / carousel)
5 = whole class AFL: I play the recording one by one, ask a team to read their answer and other students to use traffic light (appropriate answer or not and justify)
5= plenary reflexion
I am teaching that lesson straight after the revision lesson (4 tenses) which ends on a speaking exercise

How to use Knowledge Retrieval Topic Task Cards?
These cards are perfect as an extension task, starter or plenary and as a means of testing knowledge upon completion of a unit. For a short task (extension/starter/plenary), you can simply give them one or two cards and differentiate which cards are given according to the students level or their areas needing improvement. For an end of unit, you could hand the cards out to different groups and have them switch the cards after a certain period of time (e.g. one group gets multiple choice, one group gets spot the mistakes, one group gets photocards, etc.).
Benefits of using this new style of Sociology T&L activity
Set of retrieval activities
Motivating for students
Bitesize tasks
Fun way to revise a topic
Allow for differentiation
Copy, cut and laminate – use over and over again
Versatile and can be used in many different ways

Here is an updated version of my own design that I am using for my PGCE. It allows for episodic lesson structure, as well as allowing for the nature of the episode to be stated. There is a key provided to help choosing the correct term, which itself helps in structuring a good MFL lesson.
I have included a word version so the number of episodes can be altered according to the particular lesson. The pdf version is there to show you how the form should sit on the page, in case your word version moves the boxes about.
For a sample lesson using this format, see the key stage 3 version.
A useful resource to help your students master opinions: Uses my favourite biscuit acronym “OREO” - Opinion -Reason - Example - Other’s Opinion. (It should read “Oreoo” really!
Useful for both writing and speaking exams.
A tracker sheet to help your MFL A Level students choose the topic, narrow it down, organise the content and prepare their Independent Research Project. A very complete outline with guidance to help them devise a structured plan of their presentation including sources and reasons to support their choice. JPEG and PDF versions available. If preferred, the JPEG version could be easily embedded into a PPT presentation so students can add information electronically. It would be advisable to print the document into A3 format to allow students to include more information.
A set of highly comprehensible activities mostly based on obligation, prohibition and permission in La Casa de Bernarda Alba. Lots of speaking games in pairs or groups to practise modal verbs and connectives.
MFL is obligatory at Leaving Cert level in Ireland so these resources are very much geared towards mixed-ability groups, rather than A-Level Spanish classes. They are designed to encourage oral expression about the text rather than essay-writing.

Lesson sequence on an episode of the Spanish TV series los misterios de Laura. Students watch the TV series together with the teacher or independently (if set i.e. as summer homework) and work on the activities as they go along. The final activity is to write an alternative ending for the episode.
This lesson sequence was used as a transition project for a high-ability year 9 MFL class in an Spanish school, hence the small introduction on the International GCSE (edexcel). It may be more suited for an International or UK based year 11 /12 student due to the complexity of the Spanish used in the episode.
This pack includes:
-PPT presentation with lesson sequence and answers to the activities.
Student workbook in doc format.
PLEASE NOTE: In order to watch the episode, you must register for free in the RTVE play website. Country restrictions may apply. Only Spanish subtitles are available.
A huge pack of GCSE French revision resources
5 listening units - complete transcripts and audio as well as examiner feedback
Role play card practisce
GCSE writing guide
GCSE Opinions mat
This resource fits in any module, covering the topic of jobs and plans for the future for KS4 French, but could also be used for students in higher ability groups in Year 9.
It contains a Power point and a full lesson plan, as well as resources for differentiation which can be tweaked and amended as necessary.
The lesson was observed and judged ' outstanding' so I hope it is useful to colleagues.
This is a lesson based on Studio 2, module 4 chez moi, chez toi, but I added the near future tense in the lesson, as the texts from the Studio dod not allow for this and there was a need to stretch more able. You will need to refer to the texts from Studio 2 to do the translations, but these can be done without looking at the texts if Studio 2 is not used. The sequencing activities was a differentiated activitiy to stretch more able while others needed consolidation with the tenses ( refer to lesson plan )
