End of Year Quiz 2018Quick View

End of Year Quiz 2018

Every year, I keep getting asked if I am creating another quiz because everyone seems to love them. As we finish school on the 22nd of June this year, I have been able to get this one made during times when the kids are involved in end of year activities! I was lucky as it is so time consuming! The music round alone took me 4 hours to create and I was able to do it whilst kids were on a out of school visit! This will fill a full hour including the marking, but you must be tight on timing. I would suggest for each picture in the places round - 10 seconds. For the personalities round 2 minutes and for the wotz dat?? round 3 minutes maximum. The conundrum round should have no more than 10 minutes, but they should be able to do it in 5 as the focus is English punctuation and there are only so many forms of punctuation. The music round takes 15 minutes (video I have created). My quizzes usually prove to be very popular and the kids love them! Enjoy!

Beowulf Planning Pack (Anglo-Saxons)Quick View

Beowulf Planning Pack (Anglo-Saxons)

A complete unit of English work for Year 3/Year 4, with full lesson plans and pupil resources based on the Anglo-Saxon story of Beowulf. This popular pack is based on the version of Beowulf by Rob Lloyd Jones (Usborne Young Reading). There are other versions of Beowulf available for children, but this edition is most suitable for Lower Key Stage 2 and the work in this pack refers directly to the Usborne text. This ten-lesson English unit of work is based on the 2014 National Curriculum for Year 3 and 4. Many schools choose to use this text alongside the Anglo-Saxons history topic, although the plans are also designed to work as a standalone unit if required. The ten lessons in this unit aim to give children the opportunity to read the whole story of Beowulf and to write their own hero myth based on the text. In the first week, pupils will engage imaginatively with the story of Beowulf through drama, discussion and a series of creative activities based on the text. They will become familiar with the structure of the story and the literary conventions of hero myths. There is also a SPAG focus on using powerful verbs, expanding noun phrases, using superlatives and placing commas in lists. Pupils will also have the opportunity to develop their inference skills. In the second week, pupils will use drama to develop ideas and extend their vocabulary. They will then plan their own hero myth and have the opportunity to draft and edit their stories before presenting them to an audience. The literacy objectives covered in this unit are: To create a mythical character To use superlatives To describe contrasting settings To use ‘power-of-3’ to expand noun phrases To use powerful verbs To draw inferences from details in a text To use ‘show-not-tell’ as a writing technique To describe how tension builds in a story structure To create tension in my writing To prepare a group performance To identify conventions in mythical literature To make a plan for my writing To write my own hero myth To find words in a dictionary To organise paragraphs around a theme To edit and evaluate my writing To present my story to an audience SPECIAL OFFER: New TES buyers can use code OUTSTANDINGOCT at checkout to download this resource for free!
