I have taken another 20 of these wonderful short videos, and created : -a transcription answer sheet, (labelled “answer”), -a gap fill exercise(labelled “gaps”) (with carefully chosen gaps, not just random words), -an overview comprehension question as a starter (labelled “comprehension”) (sometimes in French, sometimes in English, depending on the difficulty of the subject). For most, I also created a “text in the wrong order” exercise, (labelled “question”) but found with my own classes that this was a bit “overkill”, so have stopped making these. However I have included them here…you can try them and decide. In twenty-odd years of teaching, I’ve produced a lot of material, but this resource has had the most impact. I have made these over the past 3 years, and of the 42 students taking A level over those years, over 30 got grade A or higher, and all had improved their listening massively through these exercises. The speech is faster than A level papers, but it trains their ears up better than anything else I’ve come across. These sheets are easy to use, include a link to the video, can be used in class or as homework, and involve no marking. Sorry to be charging for them, but this really does represent hundreds of hours of work.
