THE Ultimate British Science Week 2024 Quiz- TIME

(1)
5 rounds with 30+ quiz questions combined! Great for those end of term filler lessons and to have a bit of fun with the pupils! Let’s Celebrate British Science Week 2024! To be honest, this resource has taken many more hours than I would have liked as it has taken a lot of brain power and creativity to come up with interesting rounds! ‘Time’ has been another challenging one! I’ve aimed this for Year 10 but could be used from Year 7-13. Rounds include: • Questions of time? Each question have four answers to choose from. These range from geological time periods to lunar cycles, from comets to tortoises. • Speedy elements. Had a lot of fun putting this round together! Some element names have been recorded and then sped up to x3 their original. • What came first? Two inventions/ discoveries/ objects are shown. Which came first? • Does it measure time? A selection of scientific apparatus is shown. Which are used to measure the passing of time? • Odd one out. A year is given with a number of things that were invented or happened during this year. Which is the odd one out? Currently in PowerPoint. Should transfer to Google Slides with relative ease. I’ve put a PDF of the team sheet for easy printing. This resource includes: • PowerPoint with questions and answers • Audio for speedy elements round • Team answer sheet Any issues or errors please let me know and I’ll rectify ASAP. Images have been selected from searching free images on Google or my own designs.

There are then example exam questions with answers There is also a coding section with tasks aimed at getting students to practice the programming skills they could be asked to demonstrate in the exam. Again each program has a model answer. I’m happy to make any further amendments if there is something specific you need, please message me on here. I will also be making a Paper 1 version.

Harmful Gender Stereotypes in Society

(1)
Positive Male Role Models - Addressing Harmful Influences and Gender Stereotypes. In this lesson, students will explore the positive qualities and characteristics to consider when choosing a role model to emulate or be influenced by. Created to counter the harmful views propagated by online influencers such as Andrew Tate, this lesson empowers children to become critical consumers of information, rather than accepting online hearsay as fact. Intended as a gentle precursor to secondary school topics of misogyny and toxic masculinity, this lesson reminds students of their previous learning on gender stereotypes and applies this knowledge to new scenarios related to harmful gender stereotypes. While this lesson does not explicitly name Andrew Tate, we will apply our critical thinking skills to an age-appropriate selection of Tate’s quotes without crediting him as the influencer (please note that we have been careful to select examples that include no sexual references or violence). This lesson is suitable for students in UKS2 (Year 6) or possibly LKS3 students in Year 7. Who are EC Resources? EC Resources are a group of teachers who work together to create easy to use, high quality and editable lessons and units of work. We have created lessons for The Bank of England, The British Legion, The Children’s Commissioner, MACS Charity, Tes, LikeToBe Careers, the Criminal Cases Review Commission (UK Gov) and have also completed PSHE and Citizenship commissions for schools across the UK. CURRENT THIS WEEK The News Quiz February March 11th - 18th 2024 Form Tutor Time Current Affairs

(0)
Burning-ring-of-fire!!! We are now into month three of 2024! Hope you had a good half term! 2024 continues with ever more testing, increasingly expensive, unpredictable, record-breaking and emotional times we’ve seen recently with a variety of stories from around the world! What a week once again - Premier League sooo tight at the top, Chancellor announces cuts (ahead of an election - shock!), Oscars performance, photo ‘killed’ by newspapers, fruit to become more expensive, government office begins walkout, country back at number one, Biden says he’d ban tech, Oscars naked star, average shower time revealed, Oscar supportive winner and sports star victorius! What happened this week? Well, there’s only one way to find out - in the NEEEEEEWWWWSSS QUUUUUUUIIIIIZZZ! :) New quiz uploaded each week of the term, ALL YEAR LONG! More than ten years and still going strong :) Many thanks to everyone who downloads this, it is very much appreciated and I’m glad it is useful for your form groups! 13 topical questions of the past week’s news, across the UK and the world. Designed to be used as a 10-20 minute activity in formtime - you could make it a little longer by talking about and discussing some of the questions. ANY MIS-SPELLINGS/MISSING CAPITALS ETC. IN THE PREVIEW ARE INTENTIONAL AND LINK TO THE LITERACY QUESTIONS IN THE REST OF THE QUIZ! Powerpoint so can be used on a standard whiteboard. Includes 2 literacy and 1 numeracy questions based on the other questions. Works well as a form group activity in registration time - I give sweets to the winning team (we’re not supposed to give sweets out, so it’s a nice ‘naughty’ reward and makes (some of) them watch and check their apps about the news in the week. :)
