This starter is an engaging way to encourage learners to interact with key Newspaper front cover terminology. The task is; interactive, promotes discovery learning and can either be executed as part of a group or as a standalone, independent task.

Summary of task: The resource includes 4 newspaper covers (The Sun, The Daily Mail, The Daily Mirror and The Times) which will develop learners baseline knowledge of the newspaper market and have been carefully selected (two belonging to the forms EDUQAS has selected). The resource also includes all of the key terms as well as their definitions muddled as well as a two slide power point that both explains the task and shows students the terms. The task goes as follows:

In groups of four, you will each be give a different newspaper front cover.

Each group will have exactly the same terms and definitions assigned to each newspaper, regardless of whether they are on the newspaper or not.

You must first match the correct term to its definition and then place the term on the area of the newspaper you believe it references. (TIP: If you laminate both the newspaper and cut of the laminated arrows, I have left a space at the top of each arrow for student to physically write on the term in a board marker, which can be rubbed off after).

Be warned a cover may not have an example of the terms on it!
