2D Shapes Task Cards: 1st Grade CC: Reason with shapes and attributes
This is a set of 24 task cards aligned to the first grade common core standards:
Distinguish between defining attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation, overall size); build and draw shapes to possess defining attributes.
Compose two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half-circles, and quarter-circles) or three-dimensional shapes (cubes, right rectangular prisms, right circular cones, and right circular cylinders) to create a composite shape, and compose new shapes from the composite shape.

Students will need to identify pictures and descriptions of shapes, find examples of shapes around the classroom, and determine how many smaller shapes can fill a larger shape.

*QR codes are included on 17 of the task cards so that students can check their work. The other task cards require students to either draw a shape or find examples of shapes in the classroom and do not have one right answer.

*2 versions of the task cards are included: one with QR codes, and one without

Ideas for using task cards in your classroom:
-small group/intervention
-write the room
-early finisher choice
-cooperative learning activity
