’Inspirations’ meets celebrated book illustrator, Quentin Blake, as he discusses the story, ideas and illustration techniques behind two of his books, ‘Clown’ and ‘The Green Ship’.

’Clown’ is told entirely through pictures. Quentin demonstrates how a storyteller and illustrator choose key moments in a story to illustrate and how this draws a reader in.

’The Green Ship’ does have words and Quentin explains how colour illustrations stimulate the reader’s imagination. He also reflects on how words and pictures are two languages, introducing different elements to a story.

Useful to discuss how readers acquire skills to read emotion from pictures. Have previously used The Green Ship in a very successful Big Write. I love his books & illustrations. Thank you.
