Although most of the personnel in the scenic construction department are specialists in a particular field – such as carpentry or metalwork – they need to have a wide range of skills which reach beyond their core discipline. This is often due to the wide range of materials which the scenic construction team works with.

Looking for resources to update my toolkit for schools careers talks around construction industry opportunities... this is different to the usual videos I've seen, so has the potential to attract interest from another angle... Thanks to the National Theatre for creating an alternative perspective! Video is good, but it could have been a bit longer, and perhaps included some soundbites from featured tradespeople explaining their route in and why they love their job... Perhaps showing the 'before' of set being built and an 'after' of a performance with set in shot so kids can see the impact they can have through a career in set construction?
