This is a range of 10 EXTRACTS, designed as print-and-use Paper 2 Exam Practice Assessment, which includes carefully selected extracts from Lorraine Hansberry’s play A Raisin in the Sun - one of the Drama texts for IGCSE English Literature exam Paper 2 2019 - 2021.

  1. Each extract is accompanied by relevant exam questions which are either original past paper questions or a very close approximation of what the IGCSE exams will ask.

  2. I’ve also included MODEL COMMENTARIES / ESSAY RESPONSES to most of the questions (there are 10 Extracts in TOTAL!) as a REVISION AID or to help teachers with their assessment of student responses.

iGCSE / IB: A Raisin in the Sun (Hansberry) ADVANCED TEACH + EXAM PREP + ANSWERS

This advanced bundle contains all my various worksheets /handouts / printables / assessments and activities to teach Lorraine Hansberry's wonderful play *A Raisin in the Sun* for IGCSE English Literature (*A Raisin in the Sun* is a set text for the IGCSE English Literature Exams in 2020 and 2021). The level is certainly also high enough to be used if you have made *A Raisin in the Sun* one of the set texts for your IB English A: Literature or English A: Language & Literature course. The bundle includes the following FOR EACH SCENE of the play: 1. Comprehension Questions. These are an easier set of questions designed to test students' understanding of the plot, characters, etc., and they also require some inference. 2. Close Reading Questions. This is a more challenging set of questions that force students to engage with key literary aspects (setting, characterization, conflicts, themes, symbolism, mood, tone, etc.), and thus require a real close reading of each scene. You can use this set of questions with more advanced students, and they are also perfect to practice close reading and analysis as they often use key passages, quotations, and events as the starting point for further discussion, critical thinking, and analysis. 3. Analyzing Quotes / Passages Activity: This is a range of guided close reading activities with selected key quotes/passages and accompanying guided questions. The questions facilitate a closer, guided look at various crucial literary aspects, including themes, Symbolism, characterization, motifs. Perfect, again, for exam practice. 4. Making Connections / Historical Context: Included is a range of informative texts, activities, etc. that introduce students with crucial socio-historical, contextual connections to the text, be it The Harlem Renaissance, Langston Hughes and his poem "Harlem" that inspired the title of the play, biographical information about Hansberry herself, various texts and activities that focus on the struggles of African Americans through the centuries, etc. 5. Exam Practice & Assessment Questions: This is a range of 10 extracts taken from different scenes of the play and can be used print-and-use practice papers to prepare students for either the IGCSE English Literature exam or for other assessments. MODEL ESSAY RESPONSES and COMMENTARIES are included to guide teachers or for students to use for REVISION. 6. Teacher's Guide + ANSWER KEY: I've included detailed model answers and responses to both the comprehension and the close reading questions of this worksheet and for all other activities! This is designed to help teachers provide the necessary, in-depth responses to students' questions. It is also designed to aid students in their revision, especially if they wish to consult the answer key to gain an in-depth understanding of the entire play. All in all, I've tried to include absolutely everything you could want and need to optimally teach this fantastic play to high school students and to prepare them for their literature exams. Enjoy, and please leave feedback!
