Use this resource from Wild About Plants to conduct a scientific investigation. Trees are tall plants that grow up towards the light. They often grow very tall and straight when they are all growing at the same time, for example when they grow back after coppicing. Standard trees have not been coppiced and have only one stem – often they are taller as they have been growing for longer.
