This resource consists of a power point which covers 2 lessons (all required worksheets are included and teacher notes in the notes area of each slide). The topics are: aerobic and anaerobic respiration and recovery from exercise. It allows you to teach: the equations for both aerobic and anaerobic respiration, the process of converting food into energy, aerobic and anaerobic sports, waste products etc., factors affecting recovery and how to improve recovery.

Each lesson includes both interactive areas and teacher led areas. I have used this with Year 10 and Year 11 classes and it is built to support the Cambridge IGCSE Specification however, I am sure it would suit specifications such as AQA and Edexcel.

The learning objectives for the lessons are as follows:

Lesson 1

  • we can describe the process involved in converting food into energy.
  • we can state the equations for both aerobic and anaerobic respiration.
  • we can evaluate the use of aerobic and anaerobic respiration in different sports activities.

Lesson 2

  • we can identify when the body will be in oxygen debt.
  • we can identify how oxygen debt is recovered.
  • we can understand the factors that affect recovery after exercise.

On each slide the objective being worked on at that time is highlighted to ensure pupils are conscious of their progress at all times.
