Ancient Greece: Greek Roots Word Detective is a fun activity to discover the influence of Greek roots on modern English words. Students are given clues (Greek roots) for words. Students look for word that contain these roots. The purpose of this activity is not to have students memorize the meaning of the words but instead to show students how the Greek roots are connected to modern words and how sometimes a little inference can be used to determine meanings.

Perfect for stations or small groups, this activity engages students in inquiry-based learning. Use with other Ancient Greece-related activities for a comprehensive study of the Classical Period and for making cross-curricular connections.
