Celebrate Black History Month 2026 with this complete whole-school assembly resource based on the theme Honouring Our Communities.
This professionally designed assembly explores Black British history, community, contribution, recognition and the people whose actions help shape and strengthen society. Pupils are encouraged to look beyond fame and consider why everyday service, leadership, creativity, courage and commitment also deserve to be recognised.
The assembly introduces Black History Month before exploring the idea that Black history is part of British history. Pupils encounter figures including John Blanke, Mary Seacole, Walter Tull and Claudia Jones before considering the Black people who continue to contribute to communities across Britain today.
Throughout the assembly, carefully structured questions encourage pupils to think more deeply about whose stories are remembered, why some contributions receive greater recognition than others, and whether somebody needs to be famous to make a meaningful difference.
The resource concludes with a clear whole-school challenge based around three ideas:
NOTICE who contributes.
LEARN the stories behind those contributions.
RECOGNISE why they matter.
