These resources are designed to monitor and assess students’ knowledge and understanding of the first three learning aims from the externally assessed exam Unit 1 Anatomy & Physiology unit specification:

Learning aim A: The effects of exercise and sports performance on the skeletal system
Learning aim B: The effects of exercise and sports performance on the muscular system
Learning aim C: The effects of exercise and sports performance on the respiratory system

The bespoke test follows the same chronological structure as the actual exam students will sit and covers the following specification topics:

SECTION A: The skeletal system for Sports Performance – Out of 17 marks
A1 Structure of skeletal system
A2 Function of skeletal system
A3 Joints

SECTION B: The muscular system for Sports Performance – out of 25 marks
B2 Major skeletal muscles of the muscular system
B3 Antagonistic muscle pairs
B4 Types of skeletal muscle contraction
B5 Fibre types
B6 Responses of the muscular system to a single sport or exercise session
B7 Adaptations of the muscular system to exercise

SECTION C: The respiratory system for Sports Performance – out of 32 marks
C1 Structure of the respiratory system
C2 Function
C3 Lung volumes
C4 Control of breathing
C5 Responses of the respiratory system to a single sport or exercise session
C6 Adaptations of the respiratory system to exercise
C7 Additional factors affecting the respiratory system

Documents included in this resource bundle are as follows:

  1. 82 mark question paper ready to be printed including a range of questions: memory recall, labelling anatomical structures on picture(s), complete table questions, short answer, compound questions and an extended mark 6 and SECTION F: Interrelationships between Body Systems for Sports Performance 8 mark question.

  2. Corresponding detailed mark scheme with challenging grade boundaries already calculated you for you!

  3. Student diagnostic student feedback sheet that they complete after the test with a step by step guide on how to improve their application. I always print this in colour so students can clearly see what their strengths and weaknesses are and use this to prioritise revision.

  4. Formulated excel class tracking and monitoring spreadsheet to look at class trends for each question of the test

  5. Whole class PPT highlighted with good exam practice, common errors made, annotated answers on how to improve structure and application and a reflective section on how to improve their application
