For teaching OCR A Level Rebellion and Disorder in Tudor England 1485-1603

Whole lesson plus resources on the causes of the Year of Commotion 1549 - looking specifically at Kett’s and Western Rebellions.

Students will start by reviewing their previous learning with a ‘define, describe, date, detail’ retrieval grid.

Students will then look at the underlying causes of the rebellions using a card sort activity, sorting facts into:

  • Background
  • Economic and social policy
  • Foreign policy
  • Religious policy (this is followed up with more extensive discussion on the PPT and a YouTube video!)

Students will finally look at the causes of the Kett’s and Western Rebellions using information sheets (provided!). There is a choice of two activities, a role play task or sorting information into an A3 table. They will finish off with some summary questions.
