#### Circular motion

This animation shows an object moving in a circle.

by the . Notice that although the speed of the object is constant the direction of the linear velocity is constantly changing - this means that the object is accelerating.
The acceleration is the centripetal acceleration and is always directed towards the centre of the circle.
If the speed of the object changes the centripetal force also changes - increasing for an increase in the linear velocity.

#### Mr Amp: Current Analogy for Electric Circuits

KS3/4 children can struggle with the concepts of current and voltage, and with how to correctly connect an ammeter/voltmeter. I tried this analogy: current is like the number of children running through a corridor /sec: Mr Amp (the ammeter) stands in the corridor counting children (electrons) and timing them (this explains why the ammeter is wired in series). This can help in showing conservation of current around the circuit and explain observations in parallel vs series circuits. #### Levers 2: Shrek and Moments

I put a sign on the door prompting kids to push close to the hinge when coming in and then later got them to discuss what they found. Content: summary of key terms, principle of moments, starter puzzle (to discuss): 'Can Olive Oyl lift the rock?', Shrek and friends on a seesaw (I had a demo seesaw with plasticine Shrek characters and I went through investigation as a demo with the whole class, filling in the table and then introducing the equation), calculations including starter puzzle. Also contains homework and another yoyo puzzle.

#### Lesson on Levers

This lesson includes: a fun and challenging yoyo puzzle to get the class thinking about turning effects (can be done live with a bigger yoyo but I have provided videos); a starter introducing them to the topic of forces, and a lesson explaining the different types with examples (to be accompanied by real demos of levers). There is also a worksheet to check keyword knowledge. At the end, challenge the kids to identify which type of levers are hidden in the double-levers. See also: levers 2 (introduction to moments).
