ESL Listening Lesson for C1 Students: Clint Smith - The Danger of Silence

This thought provoking lesson is based on a poetic TED Talks presentation by Clint Smith. The speaker gives an evocative spoken word presentation on the themes of courage, compassion and integrity. The language focus of the lesson is the use of metaphor and simile. Students are asked to use context to work out the meanings of the metaphors and create their own metaphors and similes to describe people, things and abstract ideas and experiences. It has been specifically developed for Advance ESL students but can be easily modified as the basis of an English lesson with native speakers.
