Close Reading Guide for Informational Text (Articles, Textbooks, etc)
Close reading is a wonderful 3 step reading strategy that really helps students analyze and comprehend more difficult informational text. Students read the passage three times with a different goal in each step as they read. There are MANY different versions of close reading, this is just the one that has worked for me in my science-based reading class!

The 3 steps are:

1. Getting the Gist: Identifying Main Idea & Formulating Questions
2. Digging Deeper: Identifying Key Words & Ideas
3. Put It All Together: Answer Your Questions in Constructed Responses & Using Text Evidence, Relate Text to Self

This is a great little close reading guide to help your students analyze tough {and sometimes unmotivating} informational and nonfiction text. AWESOME for standardized test prep for constructed response (using evidence to support your answer).
