A values-based resource for Lessons or Assembly on DETERMINATION.

This Assembly resource is inspired by the BBC Planet Earth clip which shows the baby iguana desperately trying to outrun the snakes. He makes it home - with a few scary moments along the way. But, he doesn’t give up.

To support the content, there are 4 short clips (to access the link, click the picture)

  • the iguana (approx. 2 minutes)
  • the Wright Brothers first flight (approx 1.5 minutes)
  • the life of Marie Curie (approx 2 minutes)
  • Usain Bolt’s record-breaking 100m run (approx 30 seconds)

The achievements and determination of Marie Curie, Usain Bolt and The Wright Brothers are used.

There is a summary and ‘next steps’ section.

I’d say it is most appropriate for Key Stage 2-3.
This resource will fill a 15-30 minute slot, depending on your time allocation.
