Many visual representations of Māori and British people in the earliest times of colonisation of Aotearoa, New Zealand, with brief written summaries.

The original purpose of creating this resource was for overseas students of ESOL , for Waitangi Day lessons in 2016. To give an overall impression of cultural and lifestyle differences, leading to a speaking activity where students acted as if they were either Māori or British. That was a successful and enjoyable lesson, with young adult students from China, Brazil and Korea.

After that I used this powerpoint, with additional written slides, in 2017 in Argentina. My Upper Level English students, adult business-people, were interested in New Zealand history and culture. Again the images and briefs were prompts for speaking activities and discussion.

So much time and care has gone into making and improving my powerpoints, I’ve decided to start publishing them.

On that note I completely revised this powerpoint to be using images and works that are able to be shared, under the Creative Commons licences and by attributing the source.
