This lesson is aimed at the new specification Edexcel A Level, but can be adapted for other courses studying Russia between 1894-1924 Any references to a textbook will be from the Course textbook Revolutions in early modern and modern europe, or from the Access to History book mentioned in the powerpoint notes. This powerpoint and tasks will last approximately 3 hours depending on the size and speed of your class.
Starter is a recap of the different issues in the 1905 Revolution, led by the pupils. There is then some source analysis before a summary task covering the 1905 Revolution, and a crossword to assess pupils understanding of the Revolution.
Pupils then look at information about each of the three responses: August and October Manifesto and the Moscow Uprising, using creative writing and perspectives.
A class discussion is then held considering what if history, with examples given to stimulate discussion and consolidation of understanding, before pupils complete an extent line on the effect that Nicholas’s actions have on Tsarist power, and a round robin plenary.
