Lesson 1-4 (Media Language): This QUAD and Mastery sheet assessment begins the TV in the Global Age unit for Component 2, Section A. This series of lessons will look in-depth at all of RAIL with this lesson focusing on:

-A viewing of the set episode (This will most likely add a whole lesson onto the QUAD, so is likely to be taught over five lessons.

-Tropes
-Stock Characters
-Motifs
-RESISTS and iconography
-Direct and indirect intertextuality
-A historical look at the TV Crime Drama e.g. The Sweeney, Dixon of Dock Green
-Codes
-Conventions
-Audio/visual breakdown of Crime Drama montage
-To what extent does ‘LOM’ adhere to established conventions of the sub-genre?
-Chiaroscuro lighting and low-saturation in TV Crime Drama
-Media Language quiz
-Narrative assessment with 4 tasks on Prppp, Barthes, Levi-Strauss and Todorov.
-Mastery sheet, peer assessment and attempt of the following question: 1. To what extent does the set episode of Life On Mars conform to Todorov’s theory of narrative equilibrium? [20]

NOTE: All task sheets, differentiated resources and audio/visual stimuli are included within the lesson/ Power Point as is H/W.Some tasks may be dependent on owning the EDUQAS YEAR 1, AS COURSE GUIDE and may be supported with a reading of Mark Dixon’s Media Theory for A-Level book.
