A series of lessons which guide pupils through what to expect of the reading section of Paper 1 of the new English Language GCSE. There are practice questions included which are for the Headmaster extract of Roald Dahl's 'Boy' (which has not been included for copyright reasons; the extract starts from 'The Headmaster while I was at Repton' and ends with 'then there must have been something very wrong with the whole business'). It is an easier extract than they should be expecting on the exam in order for them to develop a strong understanding of the style of questioning and the skills required to answer them effectively; this should also give them a taste of success for the exam and increase their confidence for it. This also means that the lessons can be taught to KS3 students and build their familiarity with the exam over time.
