This is a worksheet to promote understanding of reaction mechanisms, as well as to help students focus on the mark-scoring details. It starts off with a model mechanism, followed by a gapfill exercise. Next, students spot the difference between the model and another example with mistakes. Following that is a scaffolded version, for which students simply have to add curly arrows, dipoles and charges. Finally, students can deduce the mechanism of the catalysed addition of water to ethene from a description of it. It is likely to especially suit OCR A students.
