Ethics Case Study #1: Dinosaur X
In this provocative exploration, students will determine who rightfully owns a dinosaur skeleton straddling public and private land. What percentage does each actor own of the skeleton? Does the discoverer of the skeleton own it, or should it be divided between the owners of the land where it was found? Once ownership rights are settled, where will this prehistoric gem be displayed?

This resource is a launching point for small group and whole class discussions, analytical/persuasive papers, and an introduction to creative problem solving and ethics. Students sift through seemingly equivalent choices and are forced to take a stand by ranking and defending different positions.
