This resource ensures that learners can understand what is required to answer D1 for Unit 7 Principles of Safe Practice for the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma. It includes four worksheets (2 on the powerpoint) to help them to structure an answer. It also includes four sources that will help them to evidence their response. In addition to that the second worksheet ensures that P1 is answered within D1. So the learners will start with the distinction criteria.

The learners begin by breaking down the criteria and turning it into questions which they answer within the first worksheet.

They then use case studies (from the assignment brief set by BTEC) and complete the chart on the powerpoint slide.

There are four sources which can be used to form support/evidence for a duty of care being significant in promoting safe practice or to challenge this.

Finally they will structure this within a formal essay plan.

The lesson is designed for learners to work in mixed ability groups.

I would recommend the follow up lesson to be on M1 assess the importance of balancing individual rights with a duty of care.
