Finding GCF and LCM – Playlist and Teaching Notes
In this playlist, students explore standard 6.NS.B.4. They learn how to find the greatest common factor of two whole numbers less than 100 and the least common multiple of two whole numbers less than 100, as well as how to use the distributive property to express the sum of two numbers with a common factor as the product of the common factor and the sum of two numbers that do not have a common factor. Students are guided through examples of how to find the factor of a number, the prime factorization of a number, the greatest common factor, and how to use the distributive property to rewrite a sum of two whole numbers. Students also have the option to view instructional videos and complete practice quizzes or activities.

The playlist includes:
• Seven links to instructional videos
• Visual example of prime factorization
• Two links to practice quizzes or activities
• Methods for finding the least common multiple (LCM)
• Methods for finding the greatest common factor (GCF)
• Definitions of key terms, such as prime factor and prime factorization
• Example of using the distributive property to rewrite the sum of two whole numbers

Accompanying Teaching Notes include:
• Review of methods for finding the GCF
• Review of methods for finding the LCM
• A review of how to find the GCF of two numbers
• A review of using the distributive property to rewrite sum of two whole numbers
• Links to additional practice quizzes or activities on certain parts of the standard, finding greatest common factors
• Links to video tutorials for students struggling with certain parts of the standard, such as using prime factorization correctly to find GCF
