This is a reprint of an article which appeared in "The Advertiser" South Australian newspaper in the Education pages in 1974. This article provides a general description of the oasis of Tata as it was in 1971. A generalised layout map is included along with questions that can be answered by interpreting information covered in the article. Originally the article was provided to support Leaving Geography syllabus (Year 11 Secondary). This now becomes part of the history of settlement. Some changes are mentioned in the article but over 40 + years there have no doubt been many more. Today students can use the web and remote sensing methods to uncover changes and development. This unit is designed for senior years of Secondary School geography. It provides a comprehensive coverage of the general layout of an oasis as sketched in 1971. This allows students, by further research, to revisit the oasis of TATA and find some of the many changes that have occurred over 40 + years. It becomes a study of change and development over time.
