## Functional maths - graphs and charts

A functional maths task that helps students develop the language to interpret and describe various graphs and charts. Students have to make up a credible story about a chart or graph. The task can be good fun and has inbuilt peer assessment, which doesn’t have to be used. The main resource is a Smartboard file with pictures of the graphs/charts. Differentiation is inbuilt into the task through outcomes but there are also some extra slides to provide prompts and extra discussion points.

KS4 Maths Revision Activity. This is a KAGAN activity. We use these as post assessment activities with KS4 and then let them use what they have learned to have another go at their tests to see if they can improve on their grades. Students spend about 10-15 mins going round the room asking each other if they know the answers to the questions on the sheets. If you think there is a key weakness you can help out one or 2 students and they can then feed back to others in the room.

#### Cash for questions revision activity

There are 4 sets of questions (Number, Algebra, Shape, Data) which are mainly A and A* (with some lower grade questions from topics which students struggle with, e.g. percentages, constructions). PLEASE REVIEW / COMMENT. Students work in pairs or small groups to answer the questions. When they finish a question they get it marked and if it is correct they are given cash to the value of the question. There are bank notes which you can put your school name and pictures of your teachers on. The team with the most money at the end could be given a prize.

#### Steeplechase Board Game Master Copy

A master copy of my popular steeplechase board game. Enclosed are the game board and card templates which have been designed to fit perfectly on the board. Print the cards in two different colours for easy and difficult piles. The idea is that when a player gets an easy question right they progress one space. A hard question qualifies them to move two spaces. Hard questions must be completed to move over an obstacle. I find it is quite fun to have 'joker' cards too which cause them to miss a go or advance extra spaces.<br />
