I got a level 8 in GCSE History after revising from this resource!

An exceptional-quality guide of clear, easy to understand notes on GCSE History- Elizabethan England, created by a level 8&9 GCSE Student in accordance with the AQA History syllabus. The resource is also suitable for other exam boards such as Edexcel and OCR.

The resource includes essential content from the GCSE course, laid out in an intelligible and straightforward manner. The pack also includes areas where students can fill in the blanks and add their own additional research. This often proves to be helpful in learning content.

I often found the GCSE textbooks to be overwhelming and visually intense, so the resource was created to combat this.

Areas covered include:

  • Problems faced by Elizabeth on becoming Queen of England
  • The Elizabethan Government- how it works, different roles etc.
  • Key Ministers
  • Why the government was in crisis by the 1590s
  • Religion- rules, acts and regulations
  • The issue of marriage- Elizabeth’s opinion, Pros and Cons, Foreign vs English Nobles
  • Different suitors for Elizabeth- Pros and Cons
  • Issues with the religious settlement
  • Catholic Threats
  • Puritan Threats
  • Why the plots failed
  • The Globe- a timeline of events
  • Important dates throughout the Elizabethan Era
  • Important people in the Elizabethan Era (student exercise)
