GCSE Music, introducing Classical Music and Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik

This is a comprehensive resource especially aimed at introducing Unit 1 of Eduqas GCSE Music, Form and Structure. The focus is on the music genre of chamber music and the set work: Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. The unit is in 3 parts: Introduction to Keys, Chords and Cadence, an introduction to Classical Style using Haydn’s String Quartet, ‘The Joke’ and finally a comprehensive analysis of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.

Three interactive Powerpoint presentations are provided that link, section be section, to each of the 3 worksheets. 9 Pages of notes are provided for students, containing theoretical exercises, writing frames and quizes, all with the aim of increasing retention of the key facts and developing the skills of musical analysis.

By the end of the unit students should be confident in analysing not only the Mozart, but other pieces they may be presented with in the examination. They should understand cadences and keys and how chords are formed from scales in different keys.
