Very basic, no real detail provided about either the animals or the family. Very disappointed that this is a paid resource.

I think it is a great local history project the story of Chester Zoo for any class and it is good to find some resources on TES. I think it is important to say what inspired George to open a zoo without bars which was when he was eight seeing an elephant chained and behind bars at Belle Vue Zoo. Also inspiring was that George was badly injured in the Battle of the Somme and told he would never walk again but did. There were a couple of inaccuracies. George Mottershead's father had a market garden in Shavington and there George opened his first zoo. The first animals at Chester Zoo were brought from Shavington a woolly monkey, two goats and two love birds. Punch the polar bear was to arrive a little later from a circus. June Mottershead's book 'Our Zoo' is a great source of information.
