GERMAN übernachten - Staying Overnight includes Subjunctive Practice
I use this during Deutsch Aktuell Level 2 Part A when I'm teaching students to talk about staying overnight places. This slide show fits well into any lesson that teachs about travel and requires the verb übernachten.

After learning the conjugation notes there is a video about a Baumhaus-Hotel that engages students interest in a modern and usual overnight option that is new in Germany. This video is embedded and is in authentic German, yet should have some recognizable words for most students.

After the video I ask them about whether or not they would stay in such a place using the subjunctive. There are 2 final slides. One that is for lower level students with just a scripted yes/no response and a higher level slide that asks students to explain why they choose yes or no. They would mostly be using the würden form of subjunctive, but you could modify it to require regular subjunctive II if you wanted or even change the situation into the past tense.
Save for later
