GERMAN GRAMMAR CONJUGATION REFLEXIVE VERBS PRESENT PERFECT IMPERFECT TENSES - THREE QUICK CONJUGATION WORKBOOKS FOCUSING ON GERMAN REFLEXIVE VERBS
I started to create these kinds of quick conjugation workbooks for my students many years ago when I realized they really appreciated and benefited from the chance to practice conjugation independently, and at really regular intervals, not only when we first worked on a particular verb group, but also for refresher and revision activities. There are 25 high-frequency German reflexive verbs, including some not essentially reflexive, such as sich kaufen, which is great for practising the use of the dative reflexive. In each workbook there are 3 differentiated conjugation challenges, each with 50 conjugations, so that’s 150 conjugations in each workbook, 450 conjugations in total.
DIFFERENTIATED CONJUGATION CHALLENGES:
each verb conjugated in GERMAN across a range of pronouns, with students writing the corresponding ENGLISH verb conjugation.
gives the infinitive of each verb in GERMAN, specifying the target pronoun. Students write the corresponding verb conjugation in GERMAN.
students write the corresponding GERMAN verb conjugation, and its infinitive, from an ENGLISH prompt.
I think it’s pretty essential to give students an answer key for this kind of workbook - it really does give them an additional opportunity to engage with the grammar, but they love to mark their own and each others’ work - and it saves me lots of time. I do monitor their workbooks from time to time, so that I can be sure I’m aware of their progress. I definitely encourage them to keep revisiting the NOTES & NEXT STEPS pro forma - it gets them reflecting on what they know and are confident with, and equally, what they might need to work a little more on. We also use it to inform and guide whole-group discussion about learning and progress in general, which is a really useful activity too.
We use the workbooks in lots of different contexts - directed practice as we’re working on the verbs, quick refresh and revision sessions, free-choice learning time, where my students simply go to our learning folders, and choose a particular activity or workbook they’d like to work on, home study and sub lessons - I definitely get lots of use from them!
Each workbook has ten pages, and includes two alphabetical verb reference lists, German-English and English-German as well as the NOTES & NEXT STEPS proforma. Each answer key booklet has six pages.
I’ve also included a selection of my free-to-download resources you may not have seen in my store - I hope you find them useful for your students.
