GERMAN SPEAKING PRACTICE GERMAN GRAMMAR SEPARABLE VERBS Perfect for developing speaking skills in German, as well as honing language skills in general - 400 question and answer cards with a focus on beginner German conversation, some cultural knowledge, and separable verbs in both the present and perfect tense, each set with a reference book of all questions and answers. There are 400 question and answer prompt cards that give students structured talk opportunities, and will also get them listening, reading and writing - as students develop more confidence and competence, they rely less on the cards, particularly the answers, as they are able to respond appropriately and spontaneously. The cards also lend themselves really well to a range of games and I’ve described several that work well for us. The cards are ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work. They feature language and structures that my students meet in the beginning and more intermediate stages of their learning, including modal verbs, word order, case and prepositions governed by the accusative and dative. My more advanced students benefit from working with them occasionally to - it’s good to recap and refresh, and ‘go back to the beginning’ from time to time!
The reference books include all the questions and answers written out in full in German. Students find these very useful learning support resources and they’re also handy whole-group pronunciation practice and reading-out loud resources - we use the books as a writing reference frame too, to help students craft their own questions and answers. Students use the notes and next steps template to reflect on their learning, and think about what they might reasonably do to progress in their learning - we use this to guide and inform whole-group discussion about progress in general.
The question and answer writing templates give students the opportunity to apply their German creatively and practically, as they create both questions and answers for each other. This is a great team activity too, and really popular with my students.
