GERMAN TELLING TIME DOMINOES 1

These German telling time dominoes games are really popular with students - they’re a great alternative to more traditional ‘drilling’ activities, and help students become more independent in their learning. They’re really ideal for pair and small-group work - perfect for Primary German too!

The focus in on o’clock, half past (which can be a bit tricky in German!), quarter to and quarter past the hour. There are 3 differentiated challenges: clock times in order, with the time phrase first; clock times in topsy-turvy order, also with the time phrase first and finally, clock times in topsy-turvy order, but with the clock face first. The background design is different on each challenge, so students can easily identify which challenge they’re working on.

I’ve included a reference booklet, which my students always find helpful as a ‘forever’ reference resource, and particularly when they’re learning how to tell time. There are two GERMAN-ENGLISH lists - the first with all the time phrases in order and the second corresponding to the second challenge, with all the time phrases in topsyy-turvy order.

The resource consists of three, non-editable files in a zipped format:

• dominoes games x 3 differentiated challenge levels
• reference booklet

Although it’s time-consuming, laminate the dominoes if you can, as they’re easier to play with, and will last for a very long time!
