Halloween Literacy Pack: Activities including ' A Revolting Recipe' Writing Instructions Lesson

This set of resources include:
1. ‘A Revolting Recipe’ writing model presented in a clear and attractive way within a PowerPoint presentation. It is visibly set out so a teacher can easily detail the outline of a recipe. Also the children can read, enjoy and analyse the layout, word choices and style of instructions before attempting to write a recipe as a shared or independent task. I have included flashcards that detail the ‘signposts’ of this writing genre such as: title, numbered instructions etc. and a word mat to aid composition as well as the learning objective and success criteria.
2. The Halloween Literacy Tasks Pack includes:
 Halloween List Poem
 Halloween Sentences
 Halloween Questions
This pack is particularly suited as a scaffold for young writers and has a Halloween word tree .
3. The further Halloween Literacy PowerPoint presentation includes:
 5 factual passages with a Halloween theme to read/discuss
 matching grammar task for each passage
 a writing opportunity for each theme with sentence stems to aid composition
This presentation provides a colourful and attractive teaching aid before children work independently.
I have also provided the passages on Microsoft Publisher in booklet form with the reading passages and literacy tasks included for the childrens’ use. These resources are intended to be used over the Halloween period and embed grammar, writing, reading, talking and listening. Enjoy!
