Halloween Spooks, Creative Writing Bundle ( Middle School Grades 6-8)
Halloween Spooks, Creataive Writing Bundle, is a "Collaborative Creative Writing Activity for Middle School children". Included are 26 Halloween themed creative writing task cards for the class to choose from + 8 blank task cards that can be filled in by the teacher. There is also lined Halloween themed writing paper, a grading rubric and complete lesson plans for the teacher. You can also use some of the task cards for any season.

Introduce the lesson by reading The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving, or read another spooky Halloween story. You may also view the film of the original story. Discuss what makes a story scary. Make sure they understand that suspense and a surprise ending are important elements to use. Tell them that they will be writing a scary Halloween story with their group and that everyone will have to contribute. To get them even more interested in this activity, tell them that the presenter for each group will read their completed story to the class, and that they will vote on which story is the scariest. When the presentation day arrives, have them sit in a circle, as if they were around a campfire. Turn off the lights, perhaps play some scary background music, and bring in flashlights.
